Flo-Gro Systems plans to build UK’s first king prawn hatchery in Crowland, Lincolnshire, according to local news.
The company has around GBP 1.7 million (USD 1.9 million) of funding in place and wants to upscale production. Prawn larvae would be grown in salt water until 21 days old before being taken to grow-out tanks.
The company has applied to South Holland District to build the new facility on Decoy Farm and the project has been backed by local representatives. If permission is granted, construction would begin immediately with the aim of producing prawns by 2024.
