The Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (LACC-WAS), the Latin American Association on Native Fish Culture, the University of Antioquia, the CES University, the Colombian Federation of Aquaculturists (FEDEACUA) and the Colombian Academic Association of Aquaculture (ACCUA) have joined forces to jointly organize LACQUA 2024, the VIII Latin American Conference on Native Fish Culture (VIII CLCPN) and the XI Colombian Congress of Aquaculture (XI CCA) in Medellín, Colombia from September 24-27, 2024 at the Plaza Mayor Convention Center.

LACQUA 2024 will bring together experts in topics of global relevance for the development, sustainability and growth of Latin American and Caribbean aquaculture. Likewise, it will present one of the largest regional commercial exhibitions with a wide range of supplies and services for the sector. It is the third time that Colombia has hosted this congress.

VIII CLCPN will bring together aquaculture experts with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of the production and conservation of native fish in Latin America. Throughout its editions, it has been fundamental for the exchange of knowledge and advances in innovative practices for regional aquaculture. The relevance of native fish lies in their vital role for the conservation of genetic resources and local aquatic ecosystems, as well as their potential for economic development and food security. The conference promotes international collaboration and advocates for responsible cultivation practices and sustainable use of fish resources.

XI CCA is considered to be the most important scientific aquaculture meeting in Colombia and will be the ideal space to publicize and disseminate the results of research and productive experiences in the aquaculture sector. It will bring together researchers, professionals, businessmen and parts of public and private sectors, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, interested in the areas of aquaculture in an international event.

This joint edition of the events will feature keynote lectures offered by international and national experts from the academic sector, oral and poster presentations of scientific works on the following topics: nutrition and feeding of aquatic organisms; reproduction, larviculture and fry; aquaculture and ecosystem conservation; health, biosafety and well-being of aquatic organisms; physiology and genetics of aquatic organisms; production systems and socioeconomics; processing and added value; socioeconomics and agribusiness; sustainable aquaculture, standards and certifications; education and careers in aquaculture.

Within the complementary events to the event, previous mini-courses and a post-meeting in tilapia medicine and health will be offered.

All abstracts are welcome and those that pass the evaluation by academic peers will be published in the book of memories of the Colombian Academic Association of Aquaculture – ACCUA – CCA (with ISSN registration). The deadline for abstract submission will be March 31, 2024.
