Domestic feed breakthrough for Indian ornamental fish sector

Ltd for the technology transfer of ‘Colourfishfeed’, a scientifically formulated feed designed for health and color of ornamental fish, rather than growth, which is not the primary objective in aquarium feeds.

ICAR-Central Institute Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with M/s.Techno feeder, Pvt. Ltd for the technology transfer of ‘Colourfishfeed’, a scientifically formulated feed designed for health and color of ornamental fish, rather than growth, which is not the primary objective in aquarium feeds.

The technology transfer is on a non-exclusive basis for the customized feed mill and scale up of ornamental fish feed production. The plan is that M/s.Techno feeder, Pvt. Ltd will produce the ornamental feed with technical guidance from ICAR-CIBA As per the agreement the initial quantity of feed required for test marketing will be produced by CIBA and the client will manufacture the feed in his own facilities afterwards.

Dr. K.K. Vijayan, Director, ICAR-CIBA highlighted the necessity of having the Indian brand of quality ornamental feeds to meet the growing demand of the sector, presently supplied by oversees products. He stressed the significance of quality, cost effectiveness and affordability of the feed.

Dr. K. Ambasankar, team leader for the technology, said the success of this model and availability of the cost effective and quality feeds would pave the way for the growth of the ornamental fish sector in India.

Shri. Ranjith Manivannan, Director, Techno Feeder Private limited, India said the feeds available in the market are not only costly but the quality is highly variable. This joint initiative will lead to the establishment of Desi brand aquarium feeds and meet the consumer requirement of quality feed.
