With solid experience in research, quality, sustainability and leadership, Synnøve Helland is now taking on the role of commercial director at Pure Salmon Technology.

“I know what it means to produce fish,” said Helland. “I’ve stood at the edge of the tank, worked to improve animal welfare, and witnessed the consequences when technology and biology don’t work together. Developing solutions that truly make a difference, for the customer and the fish, is what drives me. I look forward to working alongside our highly skilled teams and sharing their expertise in designing, building and commissioning the large and complex infrastructure projects that land-based facilities have become today,” she says.

In her new role, Helland will oversee sales, tender work, marketing and communication, a natural next step for a leader who is passionate about technology that works in practice. The role requires insight into both technical solutions and market needs, something Helland has developed a good understanding of throughout her career.

“I look forward to contributing to the entire process together with our clients from idea to final solution. I’m driven by complex challenges and know how crucial it is that the technology works in day-to-day operations. And I’m truly excited to get even closer to the market and meet talented people in the industry, both the familiar ones and new faces,” said Helland.

Helland holds a PhD in fish physiology and has more than 25 years of experience in the aquaculture industry. She began her career as a researcher, studying how environment and nutrition affect fish welfare. As director of Nofima’s research station in Sunndalsøra, she improved the interaction between technology and biology in aquaculture facilities.

In recent years, she has held leadership positions in the Pure Salmon Group, most recently as chief quality officer at Pure Salmon Technology. In the role, she had global responsibility for quality, sustainability, HSE, document control, and internal training, and led the company toward achieving three ISO certifications.

Managing director Luke Kellgren said that “to meet the needs of the market, you need to understand the aquaculture industry. That’s why giving Synnøve this role was an easy decision. She has deep insight into the challenges of fish production, and a rare ability to turn knowledge into practical solutions that truly elevate the industry,” says Kellgren-Parker.

With Helland as part of the management team, Pure Salmon Technology strengthens its position as a knowledge-based technology provider for land-based aquaculture and as a partner that develops solutions that work, both in Norway and internationally.
