A new Android-based mobile app, ReportFishDisease, was presented on June 28, at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, with the presence of several Indian government representatives.
The initiative aims to reduce the economic loss due to disease outbreaks increasing fish farmers’ income. Farmers can report the incidence of diseases in their finfish, shrimp and mollusk farms through the app to field officers and fish disease experts and, when required, get scientific advice to quickly address the issue. The data regarding the diseases will be stored and could be used for mapping the disease cases.
About 1,000 farmers and other stakeholders, including ICAR institutes, KVKs and fisheries colleagues, attended the presentation in virtual mode.
The app has been developed by ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR), Lucknow, under National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (Phase II), funded under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSSY) by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.
