The Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP) released its European Aquaculture Production Report 2014-2020. 

“FEAP is aware of the importance of disposing of sound statistical data on aquaculture production. This information is key for driving policies and improving understanding of the markets,” the federation said. 

This document consolidates production data on the activities at national level provided by FEAP’s members up to 2020. It includes both European Union member states and non-EU countries, providing a valuable pan-European picture of fish farming output. Moreover, it illustrates the strong differences in aquaculture production growth between EU and non-EU countries. 

Production in 2020

Total farmed fish production in Europe (including Turkey) during 2020 reached 2,570,650 tonnes. This amount represented a 2.8% increase over 2019. Norway is the main producing country (1,492,000 t), followed by Turkey (310,800 t). 

Farmed fish production in the European Union in 2020 was 505,734 tonnes, 2% less than in 2019. Greece leads production (122,100 t), followed by Spain (63,176 t). The main produced species are Atlantic salmon (1,801,388 t), rainbow trout (405,039 t), European seabass (189,023 t) and gilthead seabream (208,021 t).
