Spring Genetics signed a five-year contract for the supply of broodstock to Acuicola de la Selva S.A.C. (Genetika) in Peru, a market leader in the production of tilapia fingerlings and native Amazonian fish in the Latin American country.

The first batch of breeders will be delivered by the end of March. “We are happy with the recent signing of this agreement for the supply of broodstock in Peru. We are delighted to continue supporting the sustainable growth of the tilapia industry in Latin America,” said Hideyoshi Segovia, general manager of Spring Genetics. “Spring Genetics runs one of the most advanced breeding programs in the world. We currently have a strong presence in the Latin American market, with proven acceptance in producing countries, where we hope to continue supplying the growing tilapia production industry with our high-yield stock.”

“In order for tilapia farming in Peru to develop on a larger scale, it is important to have good quality fingerlings, of known origin and with valueble genetic features for a good production performance,” said Carlos Sánchez Laurel, general manager of Genetika. “The alliance between Genetika and Spring Genetics will allow supplying the market with tilapia fingerlings in greater quantity and quality than what is currently offered. This quality will be available mainly due to the technical and sanitary management during production at Genetika and the good growth and resistance to specific diseases as a result of the continuous genetic improvement developed by Spring Genetics.”

Spring Genetics currently supplies tilapia broodstock and fry in Canada, the U.S., Haiti, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Perú and Brazil, together with Benchmark Genetics that delivers tilapia in Chile, Costa Rica and Honduras.
