A new tilapia hatchery was set at the Ahuashiyacu Fishing Station in San Martín, Peru. The facilities, run by the regional government, were built to incubate eggs of improved species including tilapia and deliver high-quality fry for the local aquaculture farms.
The goal of the Regional Government of San Martín is to produce six million fingerlings per year through 24 McDonald incubators and increase production in the ten provinces of the region that have also received technical assistance through the Tilapia Project.
The regional director of Production, Raúl Lapa Lermo, said that new equipment to produce fish feed was also acquired together with a photovoltaic solar energy park.
