Piscicultura Aquabel, the largest Brazilian producer of tilapia fry and juvenile, is now known as AquaGenetics do Brasil Ltda. As part of the corporate restructuring after the recent acquisition of AquaAmerica, AquaGenetics do Brasil becomes the exclusive distributor of the genetics brands of Aquabel and AquaAmerica tilapia in the Brazilian market. Aquabel, the original name of the Brazilian company founded 26 years ago, will remain as name of one of the most well-known tilapia genetics brands in Brazil.
Aquabel started the production of tilapia fry in 1994 under the command of Ricardo Neukirchner and Claudio Batirola and has been a driving force in the Brazilian tilapia industry since then. In 2016, the German EW Group acquired a majority stake in the company, which now is part of its tilapia genetics and distribution business, GenoMar Genetics Group.
Gustavo Crosara, CEO of AquaGenetics do Brasil, said that “the Brazilian tilapia industry is evolving rapidly and with it our responsibility to have the capacity and focus on the customer to supply the market with high-quality fingerlings and juveniles. Our 26 years of experience, world class infrastructure and a team of experts form the perfect environment to further develop the Aquabel and AquaAmerica brands. Our job is to unlock the genetic potential of these brands through the search for the superior quality of fry and juveniles, availability of products throughout the year and after-sales support.”
AquaGenetics has operations in seven Brazilian states and manages nine farms. It is the largest distributor of fry and juveniles in Brazil, with an estimated market share of 25%.
Alejandro Tola Alvarez, CEO of GenoMar Genetics Group, said that “as we are investing heavily in cutting edge genetic research and local infrastructure for improvement to provide Brazilian industry with the latest generations of breeding, it is essential to have a dedicated distributor such as AquaGenetics do Brasil, with the experience and commitment to the production of quality fry and customer service.”
