Japan donated $300,000 in tilapia hatchery equipment to Fiji to boost its aquaculture industry due to the high demand for stock ponds.

Aquaculture in Fiji is still at its infant stage and with this donation, the Fiji government is determined to grow the aquaculture sector rapidly using new and innovative technologies that are being developed globally, said the Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau, to local news.

The donation will be invested in the Naduruloulou Research Station that has been a leading center for Fiji’s freshwater aquaculture sector and it has successfully developed seed production for several species.
