FloGro Fresh is the first UK company that produces warm water whiteleg shrimp, Penaeus vannamei, in a RAS system. The company said to local news that the local market response has been overwhelming and they can’t supply enough, so they are focusing on setting up their own hatchery.
The company receives shrimp larvae from the U.S. and raises them in a RAS system that is designed to use renewable energy, while minimizing power requirements. The production environment is controlled with sustainable heating, solar power forming the basis of electrical consumption and a water conservation policy. The company uses sustainable feed sources and are supporters of the International Fishmeal and Fish oil Associations Global Standard and Certification Program for the Responsible Supply of Fishmeal and Fish Oil (IFFO RS).
