Dongwon Industries, South Korea’s largest fishing company, will build an “Environment Smart Land Salmon Farm” in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. Dongwon Industries plans to start the construction of the salmon land-based farm sometime this year by investing KRW 200 billion ($169 million) step by step for 10 years and start operations sequentially from next year.

The company aims to produce 20,000 tons of salmon per year. In addition, Dongwon Industries plans to establish an R&D center and salmon processing facility in the farming complex to unify all processes from salmon production to manufacturing and distribution, and directly manage the quality of salmon.

Dongwon Industries, which aims at growing the domestic aquaculture industry, plans to build a state-of-the-art RAS farm with smart technologies. The company partnered with Salmon Evolution and other Norwegian stakeholders to build the new facility. IoT, ICT and big data technologies will be applied to the entire farming complex to maintain a constant farming environment and monitor the farm facilities in real-time.
