Benchmark Genetics Chile was granted the GLOBALG.A.P. Standard certification (Integrated Farm Assurance and Aquaculture Module version 5.2 and also GRASP) for its two production units in Ensenada and Curacalco.
The GLOBALG.A.P. standard for aquaculture establishes criteria for legal compliance, food safety, health and safety of workers, animal welfare, as well as environmental and ecological care, and sustainability in production processes.
“We are proud to have obtained the GLOBALG.A.P. certification, not only for confirming our good work about the well-being of our human team, fish, facilities, sustainability and the environment but also for achieving it in the exceptional conditions of the current pandemic and the limitations that these entail,” said Pablo Mazo, general manager of Benchmark Genetics Chile.
“We are aware of the significant value this type of certification has in the global aquaculture industry. This recognition certifies the good quality of our operations in Chile, aligned not only with the international standards of the industry but also Benchmark’s operational standards around the world. This recognition further supports our objective to be a robust alternative in the supply range of ova with high-quality genetics for the salmon industry in our country,” concluded Mazo.
Jan Emil Johannessen, director of Benchmark Genetics, said that “Benchmark’s mission is to drive sustainability in aquaculture by delivering products and solutions that improve sustainability for aquaculture producers through better health, yield and animal welfare. Receiving this type of certification confirms the right path towards our objective of constant improvement in quality and sustainability, as well as human, animal and environmental well-being.”
