PatoGen provides diagnostic and preventive services that support actions for better fish health. Since the Scottish aquaculture sector is increasing its focus on fish health and fish welfare, the company is increasing its support to aquaculture producers with high-quality know-how and services through a laboratory opened in 2020.
Aimed to strengthen its fish health team specializing in Scottish production, PatoGen appointed Johanna Baily as the new senior histopathology advisor. Baily has long-standing experience not only in the aquaculture industry but also in academia as a senior lecturer in aquatic pathology at the University of Stirling. Baily is also a European specialist in Veterinary Pathology and a member of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP). She brings to PatoGen first-hand expertise in the health and welfare of farmed fish.
Furthermore, PatoGen has recently partnered with Easter Bush Pathology at the University of Edinburgh to shorten delivery times for histopathology reports. Fish tissue samples originating in Scotland will be processed and the slides digitalized at the university’s veterinary pathology unit before transfer to PatoGen for analysis and reporting.
