Oman inaugurated a major shrimp farm project in Qurun in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, South Sharqiyah. The RO20-million ($52 million) farm is the first investment of the Oman Fisheries Development Company of the Oman Investment Authority. The production capacity is 4,600 tons per year upon completion and 2,100 tons are expected to be produced in 2022. 

The project includes a hatchery with a capacity of 1.2 billion eggs, a post larval production unit with a capacity of 400 million and a nursery with a capacity of 250 million. It also includes grow-out and processing facilities.

The project paves the way for other upcoming farming projects that will be established on the coast of the Arabian Sea.
