Kenya-based farm, Victory Farms, has built Africa’s first fully autonomous tilapia egg production site, named Moon since it is detached from the company’s core. It has its own power, water source, security systems, and site location.

“Africa may have over half of the world's remaining arable land, but it is mostly stuck in smallholder plots, greatly limiting the continent's ability to produce food at scale. The Moon shows a glimpse into the future of African fish production – much smaller sites, run with a fusion of technology, drone systems, and local workforce – to create inputs (eggs) into the larger aquaculture system,” said Joseph Rehmann, founder & group CEO for Victory Farms, in a LinkedIn post. “We have a plan to feed 2 billion Africans by the end of 2039 – ambitious, but we are on track. This innovation shows you just one more piece of the puzzle to crack this major social and environmental imperative.”
