Two provinces in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region, An Giang and Dong Thap, are partnering together to become a joint center for the production of high-quality pangasius seed in the region, contributing to building the Vietnamese pangasius brand, reported local news.

Despite facing difficulties over the years, the pangasius industry is still one of Vietnam's key export seafood products. This fish species endemic to the Mekong Delta is considered to still have a lot of potential and room for development.

A joint proposal from committees from An Giang province and Dong Thap province was submitted to Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to build a center for producing high-quality pangasius seeds. The proposal aims to build the seed center at Vinh Hoa islet area in Vinh Hoa commune, Tan Chau town (An Giang) and Chinh Sach island (Thuong Phuoc 1 commune, Hong Ngu district - Dong Thap), located at the headwaters of Tien river, with ideal conditions for pangasius to breed and produce the best quality seed to serve the market.
