A greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili) hatchery will be built in Spain as part of a new vertically integrated project, Ocean Aquaculture Andalusia. The Dutch group ThreeTimes presented the project at the University of Almería and will operate the project.
The €260 million project will include a RAS hatchery powered with solar energy with a production capacity of 5 million seriola fry, four semi-submersible offshore units, an aquaculture service vessel and a processing facility. The company plans to produce 15,000 tons by 2027. NTT Data, former Everis, will build the RAS hatchery.
ThreeTimes, founded in 2017 in the Netherlands and with roots in large-scale onshore and offshore oils and gas projects, is operating several ocean aquaculture projects in Mexico, Oman, Brazil and Mauritius and this is the first in Europe. Lighthouse Finance is one of the partners of ThreeTimes.
