AKVA group has officially signed a contract with Cermaq Chile S.A. for the construction of a new recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) smolt facility in Los Lagos region of southern Chile.

The agreement, valued at EUR 30 million (NOK 351.9 million), follows the Letter of Intent announced in October 2024. The system was initially planned to be supplied by Billund Aquaculture, which filed for bankruptcy in 2024.

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Cermaq and further expand our RAS presence in the Chilean market, where we have successfully delivered several projects,” said COO Johan Fredrik Gjesdal in AKVA group.

Designed for full automation, the facility will produce high-quality smolt with a minimum average weight of 150 grams.
