Ecuador is under an energy crisis due to a prolonged drought due to El Niño that has forced the country to power cuts that are affecting the shrimp industry.

The lack of energy in shrimp farms affects water pumping, which puts oxygen conditions and shrimp survival at risk. This situation also affects shrimp feed manufacturers, which production depends on electrical energy. The same happens with packing plants that require processing and freezing shrimp at -18°C, which requires considerable volumes of electricity. This process is essential to preserve product quality and meet food safety standards.

The National Chamber of Aquaculture, aware of the delicate energy situation that the country is going through, is implementing this measure, as long as citizens are promptly informed with data segmented by provinces, zones and their respective schedules so that the business sector can reorganize workdays and avoid damage to equipment throughout the value chain.
