Forever Oceans is looking for a hatchery manager to join its Kanpachi hatchery. The hatchery manager is expected to prepare, lead, and train the hatchery staff (around 50 employees) in their shared responsibility to operate the hatchery and properly maintain all hatchery facilities.


  • Comply with all Forever Oceans rules, regulations, and procedures as well as all applicable local, national, and international statutes, regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Oversee broodstock, larval rearing and live feed processes, nursery, pre-growing, production of high-quality fingerlings for offshore operations, and operation and maintenance of the hatchery plant.
  • Maintain SOPs, checklists, and an up-to-date hatchery operation manual and appropriate documentation.
  • Facilitate constant review and thorough execution of training programs rooted in continuous process improvement technically and procedurally for all hatchery employees.
  • Travel, including international, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the management team to review production needs, set production goals, and establish a spawning schedule and projection for each batch.
  • Maintain detailed feeding and production data to evaluate and improve production using the scientific method to solve problems.
  • Maximize production output while upholding Forever Oceans standards for quality and cleanliness.
  • Oversee the hatchery staff and maintain accountability.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager and continually review the hatchery facilities and equipment to ensure that all necessary maintenance and system modifications are completed during and prior to each hatchery season.
  • Collaborate in short and long-term R&D planning aimed at improving egg quality and production and facilitate R&D projects.
  • Manage inventory of supplies, purchases, materials, and parts for the department.


  • Knowledgeable in technical monitoring parameters and recirculation system components.
  • Experience producing over one million fingerlings per year.
  • Have a combination of formal education and at least ten years of experience in a fish hatchery. Management skills and thorough knowledge of larvae-to-fingerling production.
  • English and Spanish language skills: spoken and written.
  • Solid understanding and practical experiences in live feed production, broodstock management, larval rearing supervision, weaning, and nursery operations within an industrial environment are essential.
